The Season Finale of ‘Arrow’ season 5 was SO GOOD!! I gotta give my thoughts on the episode and seriously, this in MY opinion, knocked ‘Supergirl’ and ‘The Flash’ finales out of the water! So lets go on ahead.
Flashbacks: Full Circle
The Fifth Season of Season 5 of ‘Arrow’ concluded with an epic showdown on Lian Yu, the island Oliver was trapped on in Season 1, 2, 4, and ‘end’ of Season 5. In Season 3, he went to Hong Kong and except for this episode and last week’s episode, was in Russia for Season 5. So as seen in last week’s episode, Oliver returned to the island and told Anatoli to send a boat out in 48 hours and was captured by Kovar. So during last week’s episode, Oliver decided to stay alive (thanks to an hallucination that was Laurel Lance) and during this episode, raced to defeat Kovar and make it off the island and return home. And he did so by taking out the guards that Kovar bring along with him and while also snapping Kovar’s neck. With only a few minutes left, he made it and got off the island. A great scene indeed, which I thought was nicely ended when they added a scene where Oliver talks to his mother when he got off the island. The flashbacks have FINALLY come full circle and for Season 6, lets hope the flashbacks are about other characters backstory’s more.
Present Day: Adrian Defeated!
In present day, Oliver assembled a team to take Adrian down and guess what? It worked! We see Nyssa vs Talia, Deathstroke vs Talia’s army, with Wild Dog and Diggle fighting them as well. And our newest Black Canary is fighting Black Siren and their canary cries hitting each other was AWESOME!! I especially loved how even though Adrian said he killed William (Oliver’s son and he didn’t), Oliver STILL didn’t kill him. That’s a sign of a true hero, knowing when not to kill. And also, Adrian managed to disappear and Oliver goes after him and when Adrian goes on the boat and it starts going away, Oliver ran and jumped onto the boat and beat PROMETHEUS DOWN!!! And when Felicity called Oliver to say they can’t get off by plane, he revealed that on the eastern shore stood a boat. Slade knew the way and lead them, fast. Adrian got William out and Oliver’s face was all like “Oh h**l no!” and took out a arrow.
Once out, Oliver shot Adrian’s leg and got his son back. But Adrian knew it would probably come to do and decided to kill himself, as the entire island (Lian Yu) was covered with explosives and if Prometheus died, then all of them would be triggered and the island was destroyed in the end. AND THE EPISODE ENDED THERE!!! A GREAT cliffhanger to the finale because we don’t know who survived and who didn’t. Well, we kinda do thanks to the Season 6 synopsis, but we don’t know if Talia, Captain Boomerang, Malcolm Merlyn (though I’m sure she’s dead), Talia’s followers, and Slade Wilson died. I know Wild Dog, Black Canary, and Black Siren survived because they’re series regulars for Season 6, and Felicity, Quentin, Thea and Diggle HAS to be alive. Know what? Here is the synopsis for Season 6 of ‘Arrow’:
After a violent shipwreck, billionaire playboy Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) was missing and presumed dead for five years before being discovered alive on a remote island in the North China Sea. He returned home to Star City, bent on righting the wrongs done by his family and fighting injustice. As the Green Arrow, he protects his city with the help of former soldier John Diggle (David Ramsey), computer-science expert Felicity Smoak (Emily Bett Rickards), his vigilante-trained sister Thea Queen (Willa Holland), Deputy Mayor Quentin Lance (Paul Blackthorne), brilliant inventor Curtis Holt (Echo Kellum), and his new recruits, street-savvy Rene Ramirez (Rick Gonzalez) and meta-human Dinah Drake (Juliana Harkavy). Oliver has finally solidified and strengthened his crime-fighting team only to have it threatened when unexpected enemies from his past return to Star City, forcing Oliver to rethink his relationship with each member of his “family”. Based on the characters from DC, ARROW is from Bonanza Productions Inc. in association with Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros. Television, with executive producers Greg Berlanti (“The Flash,” “Supergirl”), Marc Guggenheim (“DC’s Legends of Tomorrow,” “Eli Stone”), Wendy Mericle (“Desperate Housewives,” “Eli Stone”), Andrew Kreisberg (“The Flash,” “Eli Stone,” “Warehouse 13”) and Sarah Schechter (“The Flash,” “DC’s Legends of Tomorrow”).
So, Diggle, Felicity, Curtis, Rene, Dinah Drake, Felicity, AND Thea will return, so they alive. Don’t know about others, tho. Except Black Siren, so yeah. Overall, I give the season finale of ‘Arrow’ Season 5 a 9/10. Flash, I gave a 7.5/10 and Supergirl is a solid 8/10. Flash review coming tomorrow, had to work a little longer on that one. Till then, see you all next season where I will review EVERY SINGLE EPISODE OF ‘ARROW’ SEASON 6!… Flippin’ commitments.
